Most DFS sites don’t pay out that much, so this is a good feature for those who like to play long shot contests.

PrizePicks doesn’t have a lot of different types of games, but the games it does offer are excellent. It operates in 43 states and has a solid new customer offer along with several fun ongoing promotions.

PrizePicks has two types of pick’em games available that are familiar to most DFS players. Power Play picks mean that all predictions have to win in order to get paid. This game type pays out higher than the Flex Play option, but it’s also harder to achieve. Flex Play lets you collect winnings even if you get up to two picks wrong. The payout is less but it’s more flexible, hence the name.

New users can get $50 instantly after playing just $5 or more on PrizePicks. This is a good offer, but it is a bit less generous than other DFS sites.

Sleeper has a terrific player prop pick’em option, but it also offers a daily draft game that is like a salary cap DFS game without the salary cap. Users create a roster of players and compete against other users. If your players do the best that day, you win. No pick’em over/unders or salary caps. Just pick some players and hope they have a career day.

More than a dozen sports are listed on ParlayPlay, so you’ll always have some pick’em games to choose from. Another unique feature of ParlayPlay is the inclusion of crypto as a deposit option. It’s not available in every state, but no other DFS site lets you fund your account using your crypto wallet.

If you’re into crypto, ParlayPlay might be the best DFS option for you. It’s also the best option for those who are into a variety of different pick’em games and also like creative ongoing promotions. The one drawback we have found is that it is not available in as many states as other DFS sites, and the cash-out process takes 3-5 days, which is longer than the competition. Other than that, it’s a great DFS site that is worth checking out.

BettDraft Promo Code

BettDraft is not as widely known as its competition, but it offers users an appealing product that focuses on low entry fees and high potential payouts. It’s a solid option for beginners as well. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the larger DFS brands, but it’s a good option to check out.

New users can get a deposit match up to $100 at BettDraft, which is a nice way to check out the site after signing up for an account. The only ongoing promotion offered by BettDraft is a refer-a-friend option, which is a little disappointing.

BettDraft makes up for its shortcomings by offering a huge variety of sports to pick from. Its pick’em draft game type is the only one available, but you can make up to 10 selections, which would result in a massive payout in the unlikely event it hits. However, you can also get paid if up to three of your picks are not correct. The payout is much less, but other DFS sites usually limit it to two, so this is an extra feature.

BettDraft only has one banking option, used for both deposits and withdrawals. The operator only uses Skrill, so you have to use Skrill to fund your account. Not every bank has a partnership with Skrill, so you should check with your bank before signing up for a BettDraft account. If you can’t access Skrill, you can’t fund your BettDraft account.

If you can fund your account, you will have a lot of sports to choose from. BettDraft has 15 sports to choose from, including NASCAR and Formula 1, which some DFS sites do not offer. We really like the sports selection at BettDraft.

BettDraft has several drawbacks, most notably its disappointing number of banking options (one). However, if you’re a beginner and want an easy-to-use app with very low entry fees and high potential payouts, BettDraft is worth checking out.

DraftKings DFS

There is no better choice for traditional DFS salary cap games than DraftKings DFS. It is the original DFS site and still the best. It has the widest variety of sports available and several different types of games to choose from. Other sites might have more pick’em games, but DraftKings is the oldest and biggest DFS operator and should be your choice for salary cap DFS games.

DraftKings also has a rewards program that gives you points for each contest you enter. This is a great added feature not available at most pick’em sites. Speaking of pick’em games, DraftKings doesn’t have any. It only has traditional DFS games. We don’t see this as a shortcoming because DraftKings started as a traditional DFS site and remains our top choice for those who want to play salary cap games against other players.

DraftKings also has more banking options than the competition, probably because of its experience running the biggest sportsbook in the country. You can use Apple Pay, Venmo, and even a DraftKings gift card to fund your account in addition to credit/debit cards, wire transfers, and PayPal. It also has many more withdrawal options than the competition, including wire transfer, Trustly online banking, Apple Pay, and debit cards.

The one area where we would like to see DraftKings expend is its selection of available sports. It has all the biggest sports like UFC, Tennis, and the big four sports leagues, but that’s where things end. It would be nice to have some more options to choose from, but that is a minor nitpick.

That’s a question for another day. 

If you only want to do a pick’em game every Sunday while watching the NFL on your couch, you have you pick of any DFS site. If you want to dig a little deeper and uncover some hidden DFS opportunities, the table below has more details on all the sports available on each of the top DFS sites. 

Which DFS game types are available

The best DFS sites on this page all offer different game types, but they can be split into two categories. Most DFS sites these days offer pick’em type games that look kind of like player prop sports wagers. Only a few offer traditional DFS salary cap games that were pioneered by DraftKings and FanDuel.

The sites that offer pick’em games all have different names for their offerings, but that is mostly marketing. The two basic pick’em game types are over/under and matchup. Over/under is just that: you pick whether a player will go over or under an established metric. This is just like a player prop bet at a traditional sportsbook. The matchup option is whether one player will perform better than another player based on a metric. 

Pick’em sites also have a standard or flex option, though they sometimes name it differently. Standard means you have to get all your picks correct in order to win, while a flex option allows you to miss one or two picks and still get a reduced payout.

Where is daily fantasy sports legal?

If you’re reading this page, you might be wondering where daily fantasy sports are legal. Similar to sports betting, states can legalize and regulate DFS games as they see fit. Some states have strict regulations outlining exactly which DFS games are legal, while other states don’t have any laws or rules on the books about DFS at all. In those states DFS sites operate without licenses but they are not breaking any laws because DFS is not prohibited. 

Five states have explicitly banned DFS sites from operating in their states. DFS fans in Montana, Idaho, Washington, Nevada, and Hawaii are sadly out of luck. No traditional DFS sites operate in any of those five states.

While the other 45 states allow for some form of DFS gaming, they do not all allow every type of DFS games. Pick’em games are becoming popular but also attracting scrutiny in some states because of their similarity to player prop sports wagering. A handful of states have prohibited them altogether.

Most states allow those 18 and older to play DFS games, though a few don’t allow anyone under 21 to sign up at DFS sites, similar to sports betting. Below is a list of all the states that allow DFS wagering and which also allow Pick’em games. 

Banking options

The number of banking options available at the best DFS sites is limited, especially compared to a traditional sportsbook. Most DFS sites only have a handful of deposit options and usually one or two withdrawal options. This is admittedly a frustrating situation that we thought would have been addressed by now. Things are getting better, as you can see in the table below. DFS sites are listening to their customers and are adding more banking options to ensure players can easily fund their accounts and withdraw funds as quickly as possible. 

Best DFS sites versus online sportsbooks

Prior to the rise of pick’em games, there was a huge difference between DFS and online sportsbooks. Back before sports betting was legalized, DFS was the only legal way to “bet” on sports, and millions of people put together lineups every week and enjoyed competing in huge tournaments for big payouts. 

Things are different now in more ways than one. Sportsbooks offer player prop bets, which are a wager on whether a player will perform above or below a metric. State regulators approve these bet types and regularly audit whether the type of bet is appropriate. Some states have banned player prop bets on college players, for example. This oversight is necessary and important in order to have a fair sports betting marketplace. 

Pick’em sites like PrizePicks offer a surprisingly similar bet type, even allowing users to compete against the house rather than against other players, which is how traditional DFS sites operate. They are doing this while not being subject to the same regulatory scrutiny as licensed sportsbooks, which has caused concern among legislators in several states. Pick’em games are becoming scrutinized due to their similarity to sports betting, so it will be interesting to see where things end up from a regulatory standpoint. 

For now, pick’em games remain extremely popular and are a fun way to predict a player’s performance and potentially win a lucrative payout. Traditional DFS games offered by DraftKings and FanDuel are also still very popular, even in the age of sports betting. DFS isn’t going anywhere, though the rules might tighten up a bit, which will end up being a good thing for players and DFS sites alike.

Deposit match

Deposit match promotions were popular for a time, but they are much less common now. Odds boosts

Odds boosts are very common at most sportsbooks. Selected sports and bet types, usually related to parlays, are “boosted” and pay out an additional amount. For example, if you’re in Arizona and find yourself on the BetRivers app, there might be an odds boost promotion for the upcoming Cardinals game. Point spread

A point spread wager is betting on which team will win the game, but the team has to win by a certain amount for you to win the bet. For example, if the Dolphins are favored by 5.5 over the Saints in an upcoming game, they have to win by 6 or more for you to win the bet.

The number 5.5 is the point spread. If you want to take the Saints, you will win the bet if they win outright or lose by 5 points or fewer. And yes, we know there are no half-points in the NFL. The reason sportsbooks use half-points is to eliminate any ties, which result in a push and the original bet amount being refunded. 

Futures

A futures bet is on something that happens in the future. Generally they are related to whether a team will win some sort of title, like a division title or a championship, but they can also be tied to a future result, such as a team’s final record.

Futures tie up your bankroll for a long time, but they can offer value if you think the price is misplaced. For example, the Seahawks’ predicted win total was listed by most sports at 7.5 games before the 2025 NFL season started, meaning you would win the Over bet if they won 8 or more games. Many Seahawks fans thought this was a great deal because the national media was underestimating the team. 

Over/under

An over/under (also known as totals) bet is just predicting whether the final result will be over or under a certain number. For example, if you think the Bears-Lions game will be a barnburner, you can bet that the teams will score over a predicted combined total of 49 points. 

Prop bets

Prop bets are wagers on player or team activity unrelated to the outcome of the game. Player prop bets, like the ones we discuss every day here on Props.com, are a hugely popular bet type offered by every sportsbook. A teaser bet is a multi-leg wager like a parlay, but the line is adjusted, or “teased,” toward the direction of your choice. Six-point teasers are standard for NFL bets. The payout is reduced, and all the legs still need to win for you to win the bet, but the odds are more favorable in a teaser as opposed to a parlay bet.

Is sports betting legal in Arizona?

Sports betting has been legal in Arizona since 2021. Both retail and online sportsbooks are allowed in the state, and the fair regulatory structure and low tax rate have led to a competitive market.

Arizona sports betting age requirement

Like most states, under Arizona law the minimum age to sign up for a sportsbook account or visit a retail sportsbook is 21. This applies to both tribal sportsbooks and sportsbooks located at sports venues in the state.

Residency requirements for online betting

Anyone can sign up for an account at an Arizona sportsbook. However, in order to deposit and wager you must physically be in the state of Arizona.

This is confirmed by the geolocation feature on your phone that you have to approve when signing up for a sportsbook app. If you’re using a laptop, you need to download and install geotracking software. VPNs don’t work.

While you need to be in Arizona, you don’t need to have an Arizona address to wager in the state. This is good news for the millions of visitors that head to the state every year.

You can use the same sportsbook account that you use in your home state as long as it’s also licensed to operate in Arizona.

Who regulates sports betting in Arizona?

Under state law, sports betting is regulated by the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG). The agency also has jurisdiction over sports betting at tribal casinos as agreed to in the Amended Tribal-State Gaming Compact.

All sportsbooks must apply for a license and comply with the rules and regulations laid out by the ADG before they are allowed to operate in the state.

History of sports betting in Arizona

There hasn’t been a long history of sports betting in Arizona. The state has 22 federally recognized Indian tribes. Currently, 16 of those tribes operate one or more casinos on their land.

Tribes have been able to operate casinos in the state since 1993, and the revenue generated from casino gaming pays for many important tribal programs. This is relevant to sports betting because the tribes previously had a monopoly on gaming in the state.

State legislators introduced legislation to legalize sports betting back in 2020, less than two years after PASPA was repealed and sports betting became legal.

Sports betting finally came to the state in 2021, and now both the sportsbooks and tribes are thriving. The sections below cover how we got here and how the regulations work in Arizona.

Timeline of sports betting in Arizona

February 2020 – The process of legalizing sports betting in Arizona begins in earnest, as two bills to bring sportsbooks to Arizona are introduced in the legislature. Neither of them are enacted, and sports betting is tabled for the year

March 2021 – Legislators pass HB2772, a bill to legalize sports betting in the state. Sports betting is very close to becoming a reality in AZ.

April 2021 – Governor Doug Ducey signs HB2772 into law, which legalizes sports betting, DFS, and keno in the state. It also allows for additional tribal casinos to open up and for all tribes to be allowed to add additional slot machines to their existing casino floors.

June 2021 – The state regulatory machine quickly churned out proposed rules and regulators announced a September launch. The tribal compact was approved in May so everything was coming into place.

September 9, 2021 – Sports betting became fully legal in Arizona. Six sportsbooks launched on Day 1 and bettors across the state finally had access to legal, regulated sports betting.

2022 to Present – Sports betting has thrived in Arizona since launching in 2021. Several brands have come and gone but the market continues to attract a great deal of interest and wagers. Currently, 14 mobile sportsbooks are operating in the state and about two dozen retail sportsbooks are open and accepting wagers.

How does Arizona Fund and Manage Its Sports Betting Market?

One reason why sports betting has been so successful in Arizona is the low tax rate placed on sportsbook revenue and rules that encourage innovation and competition.

2013 – A state law was enacted to legalize sports betting in the state and allow it at several yet-to-be-constructed casinos in rural parts of the state. The goal was to drive rural development by expanding retail casino gaming in New York and proactively allow sports betting at those casino locations if ever became legal at the state level.

2019 – A year after the repeal of PASPA, retail sports betting opened up at four casinos in upstate New York due to the previously enacted legislation allowing sports betting in the state. FanDuel was the first mobile sportsbook to launch a retail location in New York when the FanDuel-branded sportsbook opened up at Tioga Downs in Nichols, NY on July 19, 2019.

January 2021 – In the middle of COVID and faced with a massive budget shortfall, then-Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his support for the legalization of mobile sports betting as a way to generate revenue for the state. This was a total reversal of his previous position on the issue and was a huge development for proponents of legal sports betting.

April 2021 – After the legislature quickly debated and approved legislation to legalize and regulate sports betting, Governor Cuomo signed A3009, the state budget bill that finally ended the prohibition of online sports betting in the state.

January 2022 – Online wagering became a reality at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, as four mobile sportsbooks opened their virtual doors for business. FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars, and BetMGM were the first four sportsbooks to take wagers in New York. They remain the top four sportsbooks in the state to this day.

New York became the top sports betting market in the country just a few months after it launched in 2022. A few sportsbooks have come and gone due mostly to the high tax rate reducing their profitability, but sports betting shows no signs of slowing down in the Empire state.

How New York manages its sports betting market

New York has the highest tax rate on sportsbook operators in the country. We will discuss the tax breakdown in the next section, but a high tax matters because it makes it harder for a sportsbook operator to turn a profit.

Even with a lot of revenue, and there is A LOT of revenue being generated in New York, operators are more profitable in other states than they are in New York. Taxes on sports betting don’t get a lot of attention but they are a big reason why some states have a more competitive marketplace than others.

Taxation and licensing structure

Sportsbooks in New York pay a staggering 51 percent tax to the state. This means that over half of every dollar in profit goes to state regulators. No one is feeling sorry for FanDuel or the other big operators, but a high tax rate does impact bettors.

The odds and promotions might not be as good in New York because of the need for sportsbooks to generate more profit. Some operators don’t offer new customer promotions at all in New York in order to reduce spending and maximize profit.

New York personal tax rates are also high. Winning sports bettors have to pay state tax rates ranging from 4 percent to 10.9 percent, but that highest rate only applies to those with $25 million or more in income, which we are assuming very few people reading this page have achieved yet.

If you win big in New York, you will have to pay both state and federal taxes on your winnings. Gambling winnings are taxed as ordinary income at the federal level, which is currently 10 to 37 percent depending on your income bracket.

Licensing fees

Not only does New York levy the highest sportsbook tax in the country, they also charge the biggest license fee. A license fee to operate a sportsbook in New York costs a whopping $25 million.

Some states charge as little as $10,000 for a license fee, but those states are not New York. The good news for sportsbooks is that the fee only needs to be paid every 10 years.

All tax revenue generated from sports betting goes to “providing aid to education to New York’s public schools.” Two exceptions are $5 million annually provided to fund sports programs for underserved youths and $6 million annually to fund responsible gambling education and treatment services.
