Shai Gilgeous-Alexander NBA

Want a chance to win up to 100x your entry at Underdog Fantasy? Look no further than Underdog Ladders, which can be found in the “Originals” section of the DFS app.

Make 3-5 picks and progressively win more based on how well each of your picks performs that day.

A Look At Underdog’s New Format: Ladders

Underdog Fantasy continues to innovate the DFS pick’em offering, adding another game type called Ladders.

Ladders joins Streaks as the two featured contest types under the “Originals” tab.

Underdog Ladders FAQ

The format for Ladders is simple. Each pick has three rungs to hit, and all of your picks have to hit a rung to get that particular payout.

As of now, only NBA player projections are included as an option for Ladders, though future expansion into other sports is expected.

Underdog Ladders Payout Structure

Each rung in the ladders structure has a multiplier associated with it.

Refer to the table below for the payouts based on how many picks you make.

All entries must include active picks from at least two different teams.

Underdog Ladders Voided Picks Rules

If a tied or voided pick makes an entry invalid, Underdog deems the entry will be considered void, and the fee will be refunded.

“If a pick is voided and the entry is still valid, the entry will be graded as a Loss if another pick is lost. If a pick is voided and the entry is still valid where all other picks won, the entry will be graded as a Win but will pay out for the number of active players.

For example, a 4-pick Ladders entry with one void would become a 3-pick Ladders entry and if it wins would pay at as a 3-pick Ladders win.  A 3-pick ladder with void(s) will result in a refund.”

In the case of postponed contests, picks will be graded as void if the game resumes the next day after 5 a.m. EST or if there is a venue change.

Must be 18+ (19+ in AL, NE; 19+ in CO for some games; 21+ in AZ, MA, and VA) and present in a state where Underdog Fantasy operates. Terms apply. See assets.underdogfantasy.com/web/PlayandGetTerms_DFS_.html for details. Offer not valid in MD, MI, OH, and PA. Concerned with your play? Call 1-800-GAMBLER or visit www.ncpgambling.org; NY: Call the 24/7 HOPEline at 1-877-8-HOPENY or Text HOPENY (467369)

Underdog Ladders Pick’Em Rescues

There are multiple reasons why your pick may leave the first half of the game including injury, ejection etc.

Underdog will refund your entry in this case and potentially offer you a special that will appear in you player lobby the next day if you chose “higher” for your rescued pick.

Make sure to note that all picks are not eligible for rescues. NBA, MLB, WNBA, NFL, and CFB picks are the only sports eligible for this policy.

Why Underdog?

Underdog is available in 35+ states, regardless of whether that state has legalized sports betting or not. They also have a smooth app with plenty of player options across numerous sports.

If you are new, sign up using promo code PROPS to receive $100 when you play $5 on the platform.

Simply click the banner above and the promo code will populate!

BEST POINTS PROP

NBA Player Prop: Derrick White > 18 Points

Justin Carlucci wrote about White on our best NBA player props page. Check out the full analysis about why he thinks White could crush vs. Miami on Friday.

BEST REBOUNDS PROP

NBA Player Prop: Rudy Gobert > 9.5 Rebounds

The Thunder are a great rebounding team, but Minnesota will need Gobert’s size in the paint against Isaiah Hartenstein and Chet Holmgren. They’ll also be desperate for rim protection against SGA and his many drives to the paint. Gobert has been great this year when he’s received a full complement of minutes. Barring foul trouble or injury, he should have that opportunity on Friday.

BEST ASSISTS PROP

NBA Player Prop: Tyrese Maxey > 6.5 Assists

This is a really interesting number at plus-money on most books. There has been a Joel Ebmiid on/off correlation with this one. When Embiid has been off the floor for the past few years, Maxey has distributed less.

UPDATE: Embiid has been ruled OUT.

Across 200+ minutes while sharing the court with Embiid this season, Maxey averages 7.23 assists per 36 minutes. Of course, now, Paul George is in the fold, but it’s nice to see Embiid make things for others, and there could be some easy pick-and-roll looks for the Sixers’ duo.

UNDERDOG FANTASY POINTS PICK

Pick: Jaylen Brown > 45.25 Fantasy Points

The Celtics have been leaning on Brown heavily in the absence of Jayson Tatum. He’s averaging a career-high 31.3 points to go with 6.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists per 36 minutes through the first 25 games of the season (Basketball Reference). The Celtics are 6.5-point home favorites over the Heat.

Thunder-Wolves Predictions and Preview (12/19)

The Thunder are 25-2 and have won 9 of their last 10 games. They’re not just winning—they’re dominating. In their last 5 games, OKC is averaging 129.6 PPG while holding opponents to just 105.6 PPG, a ridiculous +24.0 point differential.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is playing at an MVP level with 32.4 PPG, 6.4 APG, and 4.7 RPG. Chet Holmgren is anchoring the defense with 18.9 PPG, 8.0 RPG, and 1.4 BPG. The Thunder rank 1st in Defensive Rating (104.5) and 1st in Net Rating (+16.6).

This team is elite on both ends of the floor.

The Timberwolves are 17-10 but just lost to the Clippers 116-110 at home on December 17. They’re also dealing with a key injury—Mike Conley is out with an Achilles injury and won’t return until at least December 21.

The good news? Anthony Edwards is PLAYING tonight despite being listed as questionable earlier. Ant is averaging 28.7 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 3.8 APG this season and will need to carry the offensive load without Conley.

Check out a few popular player props to bet on Underdog tonight:

NBA Expert Picks: Thunder vs Wolves Best Player Prop Bets

I’m interested in a pair of Thunder players tonight. This is the second leg of a back-to-back for OKC, but I like the idea of this being a great basketball game on a National stage.

Chet Holmgren Higher Than 26.5 Points + Rebounds

Chet is averaging 29.0 PRA per game this season (18.9 + 8.0 + 2.1). The Underdog Fantasy line is set at 26.5 PRA, which is way too low.

Against the Timberwolves’ frontcourt (Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle), Chet will get his usual production. He’s been incredibly consistent all season, hitting 25+ PRA in 18 of his 23 games. Tonight, expect 20+ points, 8+ rebounds, and 2+ assists for 30+ PRA total.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander HIGHER Than 50.05 Fantasy Points

SGA is averaging 32.4 PPG and faces a Timberwolves defense that ranks 10th in Defensive Rating—good, but not elite. He’s been dominant all year and should go off tonight. Blowout has killed SGA props at times, but I believe this game vs. the Wolves will be competitive. This is a great player prop bet to target from a unique angle.

Let’s say SGA goes for:

  • 32 points = 32 pts
  • 6 assists = 12 pts (2 pts per assist)
  • 5 rebounds = 5 pts
  • 2 steals = 4 pts (2 pts per steal)
  • Total: ~53 fantasy points

That’ll get the job done. Good luck!

Sixers-Knicks Preview and Predictions (12/19)

The biggest storyline for our 76ers vs Knicks predictions is Joel Embiid’s absence. The 76ers’ MVP-caliber center was downgraded to OUT earlier today, leaving Philadelphia without their best player, rim protector, and offensive anchor.

The Knicks are already the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference at 19-7, and now they face a depleted 76ers squad missing Embiid, Kelly Oubre Jr. (OUT – knee), and Trendon Watford (OUT – adductor).

The stud trio of Tyrese Maxey, Paul George, and Embiid has played less than 50 minutes of shared time on the court together this season.

Before we dive in any deeper, here are some top NBA player props for 76ers vs. Knicks on Underdog:

NBA Expert Picks: Sixers vs Knicks Best Player Prop Bets

Let’s dive into the good stuff. Here are our NBA best bets–all things player prop bets–for the Knicks vs 76ers game on Friday!

Prop Bet: Tyrese Maxey Higher Than 30.5 Points

Without Embiid, Maxey will have to continue playing at a superstar level to keep the 76ers competitive. Maxey averages a tick over 29 points per 36 without Emiibd on the floor, but he might push 40 minutes if the game is close after being off nearly a week.

Prop Bet: Paul George Higher Than 27.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

George averages more than 35 PRA without Embiid on the floor, per 36 minutes. George’s minutes have been slowly ramping up, as he’s played at least 32 in three straight games. This price seems like books aren’t taking that into consideration. I also like > 18.5 points for him.

Prop Bet: Karl-Anthony Towns Double-Double

No Embiid, no problem. KAT should feast tonight.

Good luck!

Best NBA Player Props Today: Friday, December 19th

Every day during the NBA regular season and playoffs, we run through our favorite picks of the night.

We’re fresh off a Thursday sweep! Let’s get to it.

Derrick White > 18.5 Points

Something clicked or White when the calendar flipped to December. His usage was sporadic in late November. In fact, in his last four November games, he recorded two usage frates at 20% or less.

But in December, White has topped 20% in every game– in fact, he’s had no usage rate lower than 25% this month, topping at least 30% in three separate games.

Boston plays Miami tonight, and this isn’t the same Heat team as we’ve seen for the past decade or two. They’re still tenacious defensively, with the league’s second-best defensive rating, but they also play at the fastest pace in the NBA.

I’ll take the pace-up spot plus usage for White at 18.5 points as a 1u play.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker Higher Than 24.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

I’m really not sure why the Hawks brought Trae Young back from a very lengthy absence on the first leg of a back-to-back set. Atlanta plays San Antonio tonight after Young played only 20 minutes in Charlotte.

I can’t see him topping 25 minutes tonight against San Antonio, and there’s a legitimate chance he might sit this one out entirely to rest. That would obviously give a lot more usage to everybody else on Atlanta’s roster.

Which brings me to Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who has been absolutely unbelievable this season. He’s finally hitting his post-hype breakout at 27 years old – better late than never, right?

He’s averaging a tick over 20 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists this season. Even better? He’s been playing roughly 3 more minutes per game and scoring over 4 more points per game in November and December compared to October. That’s a clear upward trend.

He’s going to get major minutes in this game that should be played at a great pace because the Spurs play at an average tempo, and Atlanta plays really fast. More possessions equal more opportunities.

His usage rates have been unbelievably consistent lately. He hasn’t had a usage rate lower than 23% in any game in December. He’s getting a ton of volume and racking up enough peripherals to consistently clear his props.

Now, the Spurs are much better defensively with Wemby on the court, but Wembanyama will likely be limited to about 25 minutes or so as he continues managing his workload. That opens things up for stretches of the game.

Bottom line: there’s upside if Trae Young is extremely limited or sits entirely. But even if Trae plays, you’re getting Alexander-Walker in great form right now, and this bet is well alive regardless. 1u play here.

Must be 18+ (19+ in AL, NE; 19+ in CO for some games; 21+ in AZ, MA, and VA) and present in a state where Underdog Fantasy operates. Terms apply. Complete NBA Prop Bet Guide

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has become one of the biggest betting markets in the thriving US sports betting industry. There are several great ways to bet on the NBA, but NBA prop betting is one of the latest trends that is starting to become more popular.

NBA prop betting has now taken on a life of its own in some respects, and you will see more of these betting options available every season. If you have not yet made an NBA prop bet, then this upcoming season is the perfect time to start.

This NBA prop betting guide will help explain what this type of betting is, and it will also give you some tips on how to become a better bettor when it comes to this form of sports wagering.

What Is A Prop Bet?

A prop bet is unlike any other form of betting that is offered in the US sports betting industry. Most typical options focus on the outcome of a sporting event, but that isn’t the case with a prop bet.

This form of betting focuses on events that occur during a game, and that is what makes this betting style unique. NBA prop betting started with only a handful of options, but that is no longer the case. There is currently a vast market for this type of wager, and new NBA prop betting options continue to emerge.

NBA Prop Betting Options

It’s hard to predict what NBA prop betting options will be offered individual sports options arens that are pretty standard. This list has continued to grow over the last few years, and that should be a common theme in the future.

Here are some of the top NBA prop betting markets you will see in the sportsbook, but there could always be more added on a case-by-case basis.

NBA Draft Props

Before the NBA season even starts each year, the NBA Draft takes place. This has turned into one of the biggest nights on the NBA calendar, and it is also a great time to make an NBA prop betting wager.

There are several different ways to bet on the NBA Draft, and all of the different options would be considered a prop bet. Here are some of the common NBA Draft options that you might see:

  • Who will be the first player to be drafted overall?
  • Will the first player be from the United States or an international prospect?
  • Which conference will have the most first-round draft picks?

NBA Player Props

The most common NBA prop betting option that you will see, and also the most popular to make, is what is known as an individual prop bet. This is also called an NBA player prop bet, and it is a wager placed on a certain statistic for an NBA player.

Sportsbooks are going to have long lists for this type of wager as they are trying to get as much action as possible. Usually, only the top players in each game will be featured, but you can also find options for reserves as well.

It’s hard to come up with potential options for this type of bet because there will be such a long list that is out there.

Team Prop Bet

A team prop bet is extremely similar to an individual prop bet, but it focuses on one team as opposed to just one individual. This has become a popular NBA prop betting option as some bettors tend to prefer wagering on a team rather than just looking at one player.

There are times that sportsbooks will put each team in an NBA game against one another to come up with this type of prop betting option. Here are a few NBA team prop betting options that you might see:

  • Will the Los Angeles Lakers lead wire-to-wire?
  • Who will have more dunks in the game: Chicago Bulls or Detroit Pistons?
  • Will there be over/under 2.5 technical fouls for the Cleveland Cavaliers?

Full Season Prop Bets

One of the newest forms of prop betting that you will find is what is known as a full-season prop bet. This closely resembles a futures bet in traditional sports betting, and that has become a popular number of bettors to wager on the NBA.

With a full-season prop bet, most of the bets lock when the regular season begins. The final result of a full-season NBA prop bet isn’t revealed until the end of the season, so some patience is required for this type of bet.

Here are some potential full-season NBA prop bets that you might see:

  • Will a center win the NBA MVP Award?
  • Will any NBA team win at least 70 games during the regular season?
  • Over/Under 2.5 sub-.500 teams that make the NBA Playoffs.

NBA All-Star Game Weekend

The NBA All-Star Game has transformed into a full weekend of festivities, and the sportsbooks in the United States have taken note. The All-Star Game itself is a big draw, but so are the Slam Dunk Contest and the Three-Point Shootout.

If you are someone who is looking to wager on the NBA outside of an actual game, then the All-Star Game weekend might be the perfect time for you. You will find a long list of NBA prop betting options during this time, and here are some that you might see:

  • Which participant will win the Slam Dunk Contest?
  • Over/Under 28.5 points was the highest score in the three-point shootout.
  • Who will win the NBA All-Star Game MVP Award?

Are You Looking For Fun Or Skill Options?

Now that you know some of the top NBA prop betting options that are out there, you also have to ask yourself another question: are you looking for fun prop bets, or do you want to use your NBA knowledge?

Pro actually got its start as a fun way to bet on the Super Bowl, but you can now wager on prop bets that require some knowledge and skill. Before you click the “submit” button on an NBA prop betting wager, it is important to know what type of bet you are making.

Fun Prop Bets

A fun prop bet is a way to get non-sports fans interested in making a wager on an NBA betting market. This type of prop bet doesn’t usually require any basketball knowledge to place the wager, and it focuses on events that take place off of the court.

Here are some examples of potential fun NBA prop bets:

  • Will the NBA Championship coach have Gatorade poured on his head?
  • Will there be a Budweiser commercial during the first quarter?
  • Will a certain celebrity be sitting courtside for this NBA game?

Skill Prop Bets

Nearly all of the prop betting options that are listed above in the previous section would be classified under “skill prop bets.” These are wagers that focus on the action that takes place on the and require some basic or advanced NBA knowledge to win.

If you are going to make a skilled NBA prop bet, then you are going to have to do some research. There can still be some “luck” involved in this type of wager, but the bettor will have a pretty good idea of how a certain game or event will play out.

NBA Player Prop Betting Tips

Now that you have read about some of the top NBA prop betting options that are out there, you are probably excited to get in on the action. Before you start making some NBA prop betting wagers, it is important to look at some tips or strategies that will help you be more successful with this type of betting.

Beware Of Load Management

The term “load management” is typically only used when it comes to the NBA, and it is a term that can have a huge impact on NBA prop betting. Load management refers to teams resting some of their strong efforts to keep them healthy and fresh for the postseason.

When top players are sitting out of games, it can have a big impact on NBA prop betting, especially when it comes to team betting options. This information isn’t always easy to find as you must search long and hard to find out what players might be missing.

Focus On Key Players

If you are planning on making an NBA prop bet on an individual player, then it is wise to only wager on the biggest stars for each team. Those are the players that will have the most information available, and that will allow you to do plenty of research.

It might seem tempting to bet on a reserve player to go over a certain number of points or assists, but you need to be certain that you have researched recent trends and analyzed that particular matchup.

Show Some Restraint

Finally, if you are planning on getting involved in NBA prop bets, you must show some restraint when it comes to betting. You are going to be overwhelmed with NBA prop betting options, but that doesn’t mean that you have to wager on each market.

It is important to use a smaller betting unit when you are making an NBA prop betting wager as this isn’t usually an easy bet to win. If you don’t like any of the NBA prop betting options that are listed, then it is best to take the night off and try again on another date.

NBA First Points Picks & Longshots

Our first basket plays, featuring a mix of shorter/longer odds

Quick note: Because success in the NBA is so dependent on news and making the correct reactions, it’s often prudent to wait for more clarity before making picks.

That’s especially true for a market like first basket, where starting lineups and even the smallest of changes can affect the best value.

The exception would be if you feel strongly that a certain player will/will not play and want to get ahead of potential line movement.

3 PM ET Update:

Since our initial post, both Trae Young and Joel Embiid have been ruled out. Karl-Anthony Towns is now probable. Tyrese Maxey and Paul George are appealing for first basket purposes against a Knicks team playing on a back-to-back.

Updated injury news:

Here are our top targets for tonight:

Donovan Mitchell First Points (+350) – Currently questionable, but expected to suit up. Cavs are favored by 6.5 and prop odds are posted for their star player. Averaging career-best 32.1 points and 22.7 field goal attempts per 36 minutes through 26 appearances (Basketball Reference).

UPDATE: Mitchell will not play tonight.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker First Points (+620) – NAW is worth considering as a first points play with Trae sidelined on the second game of a back-to-back. Kristaps Porzingis is also out. Through 26 games, Alexander-Walker is putting up 22.7 points on 16.8 field goal attempts per 36 (both career-highs).

Good luck!

Thursday, December 18th

The NBA is officially back on Thursday! We’ve finally got a bigger slate to dive into from a DFS and betting perspective.

Most important injury situations at time of writing:

Giannis Antetokounmpo (OUT)
James Harden (OUT)

Tyler Herro (OUT)
Austin Reaves (OUT)

Zach LaVine (OUT)
Trae Young (Q)
LaMelo Ball (Q)
Karl-Anthony Towns (Q)
Anthony Davis (Q)
Lauri Markkanen (Q)

On this huge NBA slate, there are many noteworthy injuries to track throughout the day, but the above are some of the most critical.

Best opening tipoff win percentages so far this season (via BettingPros):

  • Spurs (72.0%)
  • Lakers (68.0%)
  • Nets (68.0%)
  • Thunder (65.4%)
  • Raptors (55.6%)

Highest first shot percentages on this slate:

  • Luka Doncic (19 starts, 26.3% first shot)
  • Bam Adebayo (20 starts, 25.0% first shot)
  • Jalen Brunson (24 starts, 20.8% first shot)
  • Michael Porter Jr. (21 starts, 19.0% first shot)
  • Anthony Davis (11 starts, 18.2% first shot)

NBA First Points Picks & Longshots

Our first basket plays, featuring a mix of shorter/longer odds

Quick note: Because success in the NBA is so dependent on news and making the correct reactions, it’s often prudent to wait for more clarity before making picks.

That’s especially true for a market like first basket, where starting lineups and even the smallest of changes can affect the best value.

The exception would be if you feel strongly that a certain player will/will not play and want to get ahead of potential line movement.

Here are our top targets for tonight:

Luka Doncic First Points (+455)

Main competition in Austin Reaves out injured and has highest first shot percentage on slate

Russell Westbrook First Points (+700)

Zach LaVine & Domantas Sabonis remain out; we know Westbrook is not shy about initiating offense

Bennedict Mathurin First Points (+720)

Similar situation here; Pacers still banged up, so Mathurin and Pascal Siakam have the green light

Check back later for finalized picks and analysis.

Wednesday, December 17th

It’s another quieter day in the association, with only two games on the schedule. Come on, man! The NBA needs to load up these slower sports days with more action.

Most important injury situations for tonight:

Anthony Edwards (Q)
Ja Morant (Q)
Evan Mobley (OUT)

Opening tipoff win percentages so far this season (via BettingPros):

  • Cavaliers (63.0%)
  • Grizzlies (57.7%)
  • Timberwolves (46.2%)
  • Bulls (40.0%)

Highest first shot percentages on this slate:

  • DeAndre Hunter (23 starts, 17.4% first shot)
  • Julius Randle (26 starts, 15.4% first shot)
  • Anthony Edwards (20 starts, 15.0% first shot)
  • Ja Morant (14 starts, 14.3% first shot)
  • Jarrett Allen (16 starts, 12.5% first shot)
  • Jaren Jackson Jr. (24 starts, 12.5% first shot)
  • Nikola Vucevic (24 starts, 12.5% first shot)
  • Donovan Mitchell (25 starts, 12.0% first shot)

Where should we be looking with our first point selections?

NBA First Points Picks & Longshots

Our first basket plays, featuring a mix of shorter/longer odds

Afternoon Update (3 PM ET)

Since our initial post, Ja Morant has been downgraded to doubtful. That’s significant news on a two-game slate. As of now, the projected starting lineup for the Grizzlies is Williams-Coward-Wells-Aldama-Jackson Jr.

Cedric Coward (+1000) is an interesting first points play on the Memphis side if he ends up starting. He has been aggressive despite it being his first season in the league, averaging 17.8 points and 14.0 field goal attempts per 36 minutes (Basketball Reference).

We still don’t have more clarity about Anthony Edwards, who remains questionable due to a foot injury. The assumption is that he will play, but make sure to monitor his confirmed status.

Evening Update (6 PM ET)

Ant-Man has been ruled OUT. Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo become more intriguing for first basket picks.

As for the Bulls/Cavs game, we don’t love anything. If we had to pick, it’d be Donovan Mitchell first points at around +535 depending on the site. He’s averaging 32.0 points on 22.6 field goal attempts per 36 minutes through 25 games, both of which would be career-high numbers if the season ended today.

Good luck!

Tuesday, December 16th

It’s the NBA Cup Final, featuring the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs. It should be a show as Victor Wembanyama and Jalen Brunson lead their respective teams for all of the marbles.

As far as first point plays go, let’s see if we can hit another winner after Jaylen Brown came through for us last night.

Most important injury situations for Tuesday:

Miles McBride (OUT)

Opening tipoff win percentages so far this season (via BettingPros):

  • Spurs (72.0%)
  • Knicks (48.0%)

Highest first shot percentages within this game:

  • Jalen Brunson (23 starts, 21.7% first shot)
  • Victor Wembanyama (12 starts, 16.7% first shot)
  • Devin Vassell (25 starts, 16.0% first shot)
  • OG Anunoby (16 starts, 12.5% first shot)
  • Harrison Barnes (25 starts, 12.0% first shot)
  • De’Aaron Fox (17 starts, 11.8% first shot)

Where should we be looking with our first point selections?

NBA First Points Picks & Longshots

Our first basket plays, featuring a mix of shorter/longer odds

Wemby returned in style in the NBA Cup Semis, dominating the Thunder in just over 20 minutes off the bench. He’ll still be on a minutes limit for the finals against the Knicks, but we’ve seen what kind of upside he carries. even in limited action.

His presence is also notable for first basket purposes, as he’s led the Spurs to a strong opening tip win percentage so far in 2025/26. He also has the team’s highest first shot percentage this season.

As we mentioned, Wembanyama did not start in the semis, and it hasn’t yet been announced whether he’ll be in the starting five tonight.

We’ll obviously need to track that news. Luke Kornet would likely start in Wemby’s place, making San Antonio less appealing from a first basket perspective.

If Wembanyama starts — he stated to the press that he was ready to rejoin the lineup — we like him to score the game’s first points at around +410. It’s the chalky pick, but he’s a generational player and will want to assert his dominance early. Wemby is averaging a career-best 27.7 points on 19.1 field goal attempts per 36 in his third season.

Monday, December 15th

There are five NBA games on tonight’s schedule, and we’re here to break things down from a DFS and betting perspective.

Most important injury situations for Monday:

James Harden (Q)
Anthony Davis (Q)
Zach Edey (OUT)
Jusuf Nurkic (OUT)
RJ Barrett (OUT)

Nurkic’s absence is noteworthy, as he’s guided Utah to a nice winning rate on opening tips.

Highest opening tipoff win percentages so far this season (via BettingPros):

  • Jazz (75.0%)
  • Grizzlies (60.0%)
  • Raptors (57.7%)
  • Heat (52.0%)
  • Nuggets (45.8%)

Highest first shot percentages on this slate (minimum of 15 starts):

  • Bam Adebayo (26.3%)
  • John Collins (25.0%)
  • Ace Bailey (20.0%)
  • Norman Powell (20.0%)
  • Lauri Markkanen (17.4%)
  • Jaylen Brown (16.7%)
  • Jaylen Wells (16.0%)
  • Kevin Durant (15.0%)
  • Cade Cunningham (14.3%)

Notable omissions due to lack of sample size:

Cedric Coward (12 starts, 41.7% first shot)
Anthony Davis (11 starts, 18.2% first shot)
Ja Morant (13 starts, 15.4% first shot)

NBA First Points Picks & Longshots

Our first basket plays, featuring a mix of shorter/longer odds

Quick note: Because success in the NBA is so dependent on news and making the correct reactions, it’s often prudent to wait for more clarity before making picks.

That’s especially true for a market like first basket, where starting lineups and even the smallest of changes can affect the best value.

The exception would be if you feel strongly that a certain player will/will not play and want to get ahead of potential line movement.

Jaylen Brown First Points (+510) – Payton Pritchard is currently questionable with neck spasms for tonight’s home game against the Pistons. Jaylen Brown has been a usage monster in the absence of Jayson Tatum and owns one of the highest first shot percentages on the slate (16.7%).

Teammate Derrick White is also interesting at longer odds (+740) given his increase in offensive responsibilities this season.

Kawhi Leonard First Points (+790) – James Harden is questionable to play, and his absence would increase Kawhi’s probability of scoring the first points.

Either way, we like the number here, as Leonard has been in the midst of one of his best scoring campaigns in years, having averaged 28.1 points and 20.8 field goal attempts per 36 in 15 appearances (Basketball Reference).

Sunday, December 14th

It should be a fun Saturday in the NBA, as there are a lot of games and interesting DFS/betting opportunities on the schedule.

Injury update:

Highest opening tipoff win percentages so far this season (via BettingPros):

  • Lakers (70.8%)
  • Suns (68.0%)
  • Nets (66.7%)
  • Cavaliers (65.4%)
  • 76ers (54.2%)

Highest first shot percentages on this slate (minimum of 15 starts):

  • Grayson Allen (35.3.%)
  • Andrew Nembhard (29.4%)
  • Luka Doncic (27.8%)
  • Dillon Brooks (22.2%)
  • Herbert Jones (22.2%)
  • Kon Knueppel (20.8%)

NBA First Points Picks & Longshots

Our first basket plays, featuring a mix of shorter/longer odds

Michael Porter Jr. First Points (+390) – Will continue to ride the MPJ train. The Nets’ starting five is horrendous and they need his shot creation desperately. It doesn’t hurt that Brooklyn won’t have to contend with Giannis, who’s been ruled out for the Bucks.

Deni Avdija First Points (+630) – We like the value on Portland’s best offensive player. The leash has been let off Avdija, who’s taken a huge jump in 2025/26. He’s averaging career-highs in minutes, points and field goal attempts ahead of Sunday night’s date with Steph Curry and the Warriors.

Good luck!

Saturday, December 13th

Well, the picks were pretty on point yesterday. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

Michael Porter Jr. First Points (+475) – W
Paul George First Points (+640) – W
Nickeil Alexander-Walker First Points (+740) – W
Ace Bailey First Points (+890) – L

Bailey got the first shot attempt but couldn’t convert, preventing us from hitting an insane first points sweep. Oh well, not a shabby night!

Let’s see what is standing out for Saturday night in the NBA. It’s the NBA Cup semis, with the Magic taking on the Knicks and the Thunder battling the Spurs in Vegas.

Injury update:

Opening tipoff win percentages so far this season (via BettingPros):

  • Magic (76.0%)
  • Spurs (70.8%)
  • Thunder (68.0%)
  • Knicks (45.8%)

Highest first shot percentages on this slate (minimum of 20 starts):

  • Wendell Carter Jr. (25.0%)
  • Jalen Brunson (22.7%)
  • Jalen Suggs (20.0%)
  • Devin Vassell (16.7%)
  • Chet Holmgren (14.3%)

Notably, Victor Wembanyama is scheduled to return from injury. That’s a big boost for San Antonio’s chances of winning the tipoff, and Wemby himself has posted a 16.7% first shot percentage in 12 starts this season.

NBA First Points Picks & Longshots

Our first basket plays, featuring a mix of shorter/longer odds

Remember that both games are at a neutral site in Vegas!

Paolo Banchero First Points (+565) – Banchero has now had a few games to regain conditioning and confidence after a long injury layoff. His minutes since returning are trending nicely (20 -> 24 -> 32), and he’s coming off a productive 18-7-4 showing in a win over the Heat his last time out.

Orlando has been strong on opening tips early this season, and Banchero will continue to have an alpha role offensively alongside Desmond Bane with Franz Wagner sidelined.

Check back for potential late-adds, along with final plays and analysis.

Good luck!

Friday, December 12th

After a quiet few days in the association, we finally get a bigger NBA slate to tackle on Friday night.

Here are the matchups:

Pistons (19-5) vs. Hawks (14-11)
76ers (13-10) vs. Pacers (6-18)
Wizards (3-19) vs. Cavaliers (14-11)
Hornets (7-17) vs. Bulls (9-14)
Grizzlies (11-13) vs. Jazz (8-15)
Mavericks (9-16) vs. Nets (6-17)
Warriors (13-12) vs. Timberwolves (15-9)

Injury update:

Highest opening tipoff win percentages so far this season (via BettingPros):

  • Jazz (73.9%)
  • Nets (65.2%)
  • Cavaliers (64.0%)
  • Grizzlies (62.5%)
  • 76ers (56.5%)
  • Hornets (50.0%)
  • Wizards (50.0%)

Highest first shot percentages on this slate (minimum of 20 starts):

  • Kon Knueppel (21.7%)
  • DeAndre Hunter (19.0%)
  • Lauri Markkanen (18.2%)
  • Nicolas Claxton (17.4%)
  • Jaylen Wells (16.7%)
  • Julius Randle (16.7%)
  • Donte DiVincenzo (16.7%)

In smaller sample sizes, Brandon Miller (8 starts, 50% first shot), Cedric Coward (11 starts, 45.5% first shot) and Paul George (8 starts, 25.0% first shot) have been heavily involved to start games, too.

NBA First Points Picks & Longshots

Our first basket plays, featuring a mix of shorter/longer odds

Michael Porter Jr. First Basket Scorer (+475) – The projected starting lineup for the Nets: Demin-Mann-Porter Jr.-Clowney-Claxton. Yikes. Porter Jr. has been chucking it, but for good reason, as he’s one of the only players who can consistently create offense on this abysmal team. He’s averaging a career-high 28.3 points and 20.5 field goal attempts per 36 minutes through 19 games (Basketball Reference).

Paul George First Basket Scorer (+640) – Maxey remains questionable for tonight’s favorable home matchup against the Pacers, and PG13 has had some nice scoring outputs early in games since returning to the court.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker First Basket Scorer (+740) – Lost in Jalen Johnson’s elite season has been NAW’s significant contributions. He’s done an amazing job filling the scoring void left by Trae Young’s injury — heading into tonight, he’s averaged 22.7 points (career-high number) and 16.7 field goal attempts per 36 minutes in 2025/26.

Ace Bailey First Basket Scorer (+890) – Want a wild one? Lauri Markkanen has been the top dog offensively for the Jazz and will be a popular NBA first points pick, but Bailey is intriguing as a longer-shot. If there’s one thing we’ve learned, he’s not afraid (whatsoever) to shoot. The ultra-confident rookie is averaging 13.9 field goal attempts per 36.

Check back later for finalized picks and analysis.

Good luck!

Below, I’ll break down not only how to succeed with these outside aspects but also where to look to find what to pick with the players.

NBA Pick’Em Tips: Max Value Strategies

Make sure to implement all our best tips and winning strategies in your picks this season.

Bankroll Management

The most difficult aspect of player props for young users to understand is that you will lose. You’ll lose a lot. It isn’t about winning every play. It’s about making money. There’s a ton of variance in sports, and a loss doesn’t necessarily mean it was a bad pick. On the other hand, a win also doesn’t mean it was a good pick.

The easiest way to limit this variance is by using smart bankroll management. There’s enough variance in the actual sport and results themselves, you don’t need to add more variance via your style of play.

There are several ways you can use your bankroll, but it has to stay consistent. First, 1 unit should equal 1% of your bankroll. If you have a $1,000 bankroll, 1 unit would equal $10.

Once you understand units, you simply need to stay consistent. The easiest way to do this is to place 1 unit on every play. As you win more, your units increase, and you’ll place more actual money (not more units) on each play.

If you want to get more advanced, you can create a scale between 1 and 5. You can play 1 unit on your least favorite plays and 5 units on your favorite ones. The in-between will sit at 2, 3, and 4 units. This is for more advanced players, as you have to make decisions about how much you like specific plays compared to others.

Regardless of whether you’re a novice or expert, you need to have smart, disciplined bankroll management, or you aren’t going to profit over the long run.

Leverage Sites

Leveraging sites is one of the best ways to find edges in player props. There are a few different ways to leverage sites, as they all offer different types of ways to play player props.

The first way to leverage a site is to compare the actual prop. For instance, LeBron James could be set at 23.5 points on PrizePicks, 24.5 on Underdog, and 22.5 on Sleeper. Assuming the payout is the same on all three sites, you’re getting the biggest discount on Sleeper. That’s where you should play.

When considering this, it’s important to understand that getting even a point off of a total can add up over the long run.

The second way to leverage these sites is via the payout. PrizePicks has set payouts, excluding stacks, while Sleeper has variable odds, and Underdog is a combination of both of them.

If you have a play [same on all sites] that involves Luka Doncic and Trae Young, you should compare the payouts on each site. It’ll be 3x on PrizePicks, but it might be 3.15x on Underdog and 3.35x on Sleeper. In this instance, Sleeper is the best site to make this play.

You may think 0.35x is only a slight increase, but if you extrapolate this over 100 wins, you’re now up +35 units compared to PrizePicks and +20 units over Underdog.

Minutes

Minutes are the most important aspect to consider for the NBA. If you aren’t on the court, you can’t record stats. It’s simple, but it’s an overlooked aspect of playing NBA props.

Limited opportunities limit players drastically more in basketball than in other sports. If you get only one shot at the basket, your ceiling is 4 points. In baseball, one at-bat can turn into a home run. In football, one play can turn into 99 yards and a touchdown.

You certainly want more opportunities in other sports, but opportunities are more important in basketball because of the limited ceiling a player has on any individual opportunity. More minutes equal more opportunity for specific opportunities.

Andre Drummond is one of the easiest players to see this with in the NBA because his high-end per-minute production is outstanding. In 2023-24, Drummond averaged 8.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks in only 17.1 minutes per game for the Chicago Bulls.

On a normal basis, Drummond is limited in his opportunities because of his lack of minutes. On a per-36-minute basis, his averages are 17.7 points, 18.9 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 1.9 steals, and 1.3 blocks.

Granted, more minutes don’t guarantee production to expand at a certain rate, but the minutes show the difference in what’s available for a player, particularly like Drummond.

Matchups

Matchups are one of the most important aspects of projecting basketball props. Some teams are drastically better or worse against certain positions, and those are situations you can avoid or take advantage of.

In 2023-24, the Washington Wizards allowed 26.72 points per game to opposing centers. It was the most in the NBA. The Sacramento Kings allowed only 19.57 points per game to the position, which was the lowest in the league. The difference between these teams was an average of 7.15 points per game.

Matchups aren’t only important for points, though. They’re important for every aspect of basketball. Rebounds, assists, three-pointers, steals, blocks, and turnovers are all aspects that are affected by matchups.

Restrictions apply. See sleeper.com/match for details. 18+ (19 in AL & NE; 21 in MA & VA). First-time depositors only. $25 minimum. 100% match up to $100. Play Responsibly. Call/text 1-800-426-2537 for help.

Injuries/Rest Days

Injuries and rest days are one of the most important in the NBA because they dictate minutes and opportunities. These aren’t quite as important for players with small roles, and they are more important for stars. That isn’t to say they aren’t important for everyone, depending on the situation.

When a player misses a game, their minutes and opportunities are distributed to others. For example, if Nikola Vucevic would’ve missed a game in 2023-24, Drummond would’ve bumped from ~17 minutes to closer to 30. The difference in minutes gives an immediate upgrade in opportunity.

When you’re considering stars, the opportunities are more than just minutes. Certain players demand the ball, and it limits the opportunities of others. For example, the Milwaukee Bucks stars Damian Lillard and Khris Middleton averaged 5.1 and 4.0 more points per game without Giannis Antetokounmpo on the court.

Injuries and rest days change players’ minutes and roles, which are what create opportunities. It’s an important aspect of figuring out those potential stats.

Advanced Metrics

Box scores are a useful tool sometimes, but they generally don’t tell us what we want to know. They tell us the past, but we’re looking at the future. There are several predictive stats that we can use to have a better chance at hitting player props in the future.

For scoring, shot attempts are more important than points. If one player shoots 5/20 and another shoots 5/5 and they both score 10 points, they look the same in the box score. They aren’t the same, though, and we can project that in the future, the first player will find [positive] regression while the second player will find [negative] regression.

Rebound chances are more important than actual rebounds. I prefer the player with fewer rebounds and more chances in the future compared to the player with more rebounds and fewer chances. Keep in mind, these are for drastic differences, as some players are better at converting their chances.

Arguably the most important of these predictive stats are potential assists. So much can go wrong with assists because you’re banking on a player to do something very specific with the ball while also making the shot. There’s variance to shooting, and potential assists will always predict the future better than assists in the box score.

Five Key Statistics To Know For NBA Betting & DFS

Outlined below are five of the most important NBA DFS and betting stats and why you should factor them into your decision-making process.

Minutes Played

This one seems too obvious, right? A player’s minutes are the granddaddy of it all because if a player isn’t on the floor, there is no opportunity to accumulate statistics.

However, it’s not that simple. Coaches will tweak rotations during the season, and oftentimes it could be a subtle change from game-to-game. The best, most meticulous beat reporters may have no clue about a closed-door conversation about changing a player’s role.

The good news is that there are plenty of coaches in the league with a track record of rotation tendencies. For example, Kncks’ coach Tom Thibodeau is notorious for running his starters into the ground and running a tight bench rotation.

The NBA is unlike any other major sports. Starting lineups are very fluid due to injuries, players on back-to-back games, and trade deadlines.

As a result, there are constantly new players being thrust into different/uncharted roles and situations.

Usage Rate

Players who are used the most typically accumulate the most statistics. This one isn’t so hard to comprehend either, but not enough bettors/DFSers take it into consideration.

More specifically, NBA.com cites usage rate as “the percentage of his team’s possessions that a player ends (via field goal attempts, turnovers and trips to the line) while he’s on the floor.”

To paint a broader picture, Joel Embiid led the NBA with a 38% usage rate last season, and there were only 15 players who logged a usage rate higher than 30% across the entire season. If someone has a 30% usage rate, they are a huge part offensively. Some other players who met that criteria unsurprisingly include Luka Doncic, Victor Wembanyama, LaMelo Ball, and Jalen Brunson.

Now, when you take a look at minutes, roles changing, and usage rates, you can draw some conclusions to predict an upcoming big game.

For example, Jalen Brunson is a huge part of the Knicks’ offense again this season, with a 29% usage rate this season. What if he gets ruled out? When he’s off the floor, that greatly affects the responsibilities and roles of his contributing teammates.

Although they play different positions, Karl-Anthony Towns has seen more than a 6% usage increase this season when Brunson isn’t sharing the court with him. He’s by far the biggest beneficiary of Brunson sitting, and that means Towns should be the new ringleader of the offense.

Sportsbooks will adjust lines based upon news, but sometimes they can overreact and set a line too high or not reopen a line high enough, and that’s where you can still get an edge.

Potential Assist & Rebound Chances

These metrics are very similar when it comes to measuring how much opportunity a player may have had in a single game despite varying results.

Two truths: nobody can win every rebound battle, and nobody can make every shot.

A potential assist is technically defined as “a pass to a teammate who shoots within one dribble of receiving the ball.” Assists greatly depend on a distributor’s teammates, so it’s not always someone’s fault when an assist number is low.

For example (hypothetically), Chris Paul may have only had seven assists yesterday, but perhaps he had a league-high 19 potential assists during his game on Sunday. He was definitely doing his job by being an elite passer of the ball, but the Spurs only shot 25% from 3-point land on the night, causing CP3 to miss out on plenty of statistics.

You can look through trends and draw conclusions why these numbers may have fluctuated. De’Aaron Fox was just traded from Sacramento, and they don’t really have a replacement point guard. My guess is Malik Monk will slide into that role. I would expect the ball to be in his hands a lot more, for him to throw more passes per game, resulting in both more potential and actual assists.

NBA.com defines a rebound chance as follows: “a player has a rebound chance if they are the closest player to the ball at any point in time between when the ball has crossed below the rim to when it is fully rebounded.”

You can sift through these numbers to hunt for trends just like potential assists. Team matchups and minutes are two of the bigger causes for rebound chances to change. Some teams are quite literally physically big inside, and some teams play much slower than others.

That brings me to my last talking point. Pace.

Pace

This one is fairly self-explanatory. Pace is sometimes referred to as tempo. The faster a game is, the more chances there are for points, rebounds, assists, and every other counting statistic.

When two fast teams play in terms of pace, the Vegas game total is generally much higher than usual. Those are good games to target for individual performances. Player prop lines should be higher than usual, and these are typically where the most popular DFS plays of the day end up.

You can find an edge when a slow team is playing a fast team. We like to call that a pace-up spot for the slower team. It’s even sweeter if the slow team is a big underdog, which should force them to play faster while trailing when time is running out later in the game.

We are ironically going to give another Jalen Brunson example, who averages 27.6 points per game this season. The Knicks play at the league’s seventh-slowest pace, and the Hawks play at the second-fastest pace in the league.

Let’s pretend the Hawks are favored. If a sportsbook is listing Brunson’s scoring prop at its typical line and price, that bet should be a great spot to target. Brunson is the best player on a slow team.

Of course, there are plenty of other variables that affect someone’s performance, but it’s a favorite scenario of mine to hunt for.

TOP NBA DFS GAMES

Which games are shaping up to be DFS and sports betting goldmines?

Jazz vs Lakers

  • Slate-high 244 game total
  • Lauri Markkanen is questionable for Utah–could open the door for a huge Keyonte George game
  • If the game stays close, Luka Doncic could feast against a porous defense

Hawks vs Hornets

  • 239 Game Total, 5.5-point spread
  • Trae Young back (possibly limited), LaMelo Ball questionable
  • Like Brandon Miller > 19.5 points regardless, close spread, high total.

NBA Injuries For Thursday, December 18th

Injuries are a big part of any NBA betting cheat sheet. Today’s slate is littered with them.

Check out some NBA injuries today via Underdog (as of Thursday morning):

There are a ton of other injury situations we’ll need to monitor. Here are some big ones:

  • Knicks: If any combination of KAT, OG, or Josh Hart sit, Brunson, Bridges, and Clarkson could get huge boosts.
  • Hornets: Sexton and Mann are out, which makes Brandon Miller very interesting. if LaMelo (Q) sits, wheels up for Miller.
  • Heat: Tyler Herro is out, and Norman Powell is questionable. Miami is very thin, without Nikola Jovic and Pelle Larsson as well. Powell could be called upon to take on a huge scoring output, but if he’s out, keep an eye on Andrew Wiggins and Jaimie Jaquez, who were unreal earlier this year. The matchup is fantastic against the lowly Nets, which is why this is a very significant situation to keep tabs on. UPDATE: Norman Powell has been upgraded to probable!
  • Clippers: No James Harden tonight. Massive bump to Kawhi Leonard and company.
  • Bucks: Kyle Kuzma, Cole Anthony, AJ Green are all questionable; Giannis remains OUT. Bobby Portis could be a big winner if Kuzma sits, while Kevin Porter Jr. and Ryan Rollins continue to be a big part of the MIL rotation.
  • Mavericks: AD, Brandon Williams, and D’Angelo Russell are all questionable. If both guards sit, it’s Ryan Nembhard to the moon. If AD (and others) are out, P.J. Washington and Cooper Flagg continue to be the offense. UPDATE (11:50 a.m. EST): Anthony Davis NOT seen at shootaround.
  • Jazz: Lauri Markkanen has been ruled out.

BEST POINTS PROP

  • NBA Player Prop: Michael Porter Jr. > 25.5 Points

Justin Carlucci wrote about MPJ for our best NBA player props page. Check it out. Porter has a monster usage rate this year. He’ coming off one bad game (blowout), but the Heat could be VERY thin tonight due to injuries.

  • NBA Player Prop: P.J. Washington > 14.5 Points

Late add here, with AD not seen at shootaround, Washington should be a focal point of the offense tonight, assuming Davis sits. Without Davis, Washington averaged 0.53 points per minute. Tough matchup, but a possible huge usage game incoming.

BEST REBOUNDS PROP

  • NBA Player Prop: Chet Holmgren > 8.5 Rebounds

A blowout is my biggest fear. However, Isaiah Hartenstein is out for tonight, and Holmgren will surely be needed to play some more minutes at center. Holmgren might not play 36 minutes, but he averages another 1.43 rebounds per 36 without Hartenstein on the floor this year. That’s .32 rebounds per minute; if he plays 30 minutes, he should clear 8.5 boards.

BEST ASSISTS PROP

  • NBA Player Prop: Kevin Porter Jr. > 6.5 Assists

Porter is averaging a tick over 17 potential assists per game across his last five contests, which is up from his season average. Porter averages over 8 assists per 36 minutes without Giannis Antetokounmp on the floor this season.

UNDERDOG FANTASY POINTS PICK

Underdog Fantasy Pick: Luka Doncic > 62.65 Fantasy Points

Tough to ignore Luka with Austin Reaves out. This game has a strong chance of staying competitive and features a high 242.5 point total, and we expect another monster showing from Doncic.
